He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

After You Have Suffered A While

1Pe 5:8-10, 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Peter has in mind Christ’s warning to himself to watch and pray against Satan advances remembering Satan’s desire for him even with Jesus present. Having had a failure under the attacks by Satan, he understood that all believers are not exempt from trials or Satan’s attack.

In these few verses he wants us to recognize him, his tactics and how to handle him. Satan’s best weapon is lies, he is the father of all lies. He is to be watched and resisted. We resist by being steadfast in the faith (vs. 9, Jam 4:7, Eph 6:13). The faith is fueled by the word of God and solidified by prayers. Jesus tempted remained firm, steadfast in truth. Only faith in God can give that steadfastness in Christ, the one Foundation, the Rock on which the Christian’s house is built. Faith here is trustfulness rather than objective truth. The moment we have resisted, the Lord of all grace will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us after we have suffered a while.
