1Joh 3:16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
Most people know John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,…”, but have we considered 1John 3:16 in the light of John 3:16, that He laid down His life to undeserving, unworthy, stiff necked people? This is unconditional love with no strings attached. The love of God in Christ is shown on the cross, it is love demonstrated in doing (Rom 5:8).
From this truth believed, we are called to lay down our own lives for the brethren (not in atoning sense) but as full proof that we know and have received His love. If we love as He loved, we must be willing even to die for each other. If our hearts are filled with brotherly love this is our proof that we are God’s children born into His family. His love rearranges our priorities, His love unifies. We put others cares’ above ours not when they deserve or have earned it but reciprocating what we undeserving people have received. Our love must not show itself in empty professions.
