He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Change Needed In Tough Times

2Sa 12:20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.

David’s son he had been laboring for in prayer died. His elders were afraid to inform him because of how distressed he was when his son was sick. Upon hearing the news, David rose, washed, changed clothes, went to the house of the Lord and worshipped then ate something.

Sometimes when we don’t get what we pray for, we change our God rather than modify or change how we respond to unexpected answers. David could have been angry, cursed God, gone into depression, committed suicide but no. David reminded himself of many times the Lord had come through for him and this would not be the last time David would need God. David had confidence that God will bless him again and that he will see his son again. Despite specific disappointments, let us not throw out God who has many times blessed us even when we failed Him. Our confidence and commitment should not rest on “what has He done for me lately” but in God who is gracious and merciful.
