Mat 19:5… Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.
The first institution or relationship God created was that of marriage. God authored marriage and blessed it. In Genesis He creates it, throughout the OT He establishes it and defends it. In the last book in OT He declares “I hate divorce“. In the NT He refines and explains it. In the creation, God made male and female and united the two by a bond in the marriage of one man to one woman.
Think of Job, God let Satan take everything from him but his wife, she was not physically touched. God would not let Satan separate them. God through a dream called King Abimelech “a dead man” for eying Abraham’s wife. God honors marriages because it is a union that paints a picture of Christ’s marriage to His bride the Church. This picture of marriage is made clear in the NT. His main purpose is to make us HOLY and conform us to the image of Christ in this covenant. With this knowledge we come to understand that the primary reason for marriage is not our happiness, it is secondary. May we see marriage from His perspective.
