Psa 91:4 He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler
I am fascinated with way the mother hen takes care of her chicks. One way is gathering them under her wings. Sometimes you wouldn’t even know they are hidden and that is because she is good at hiding them. She will also brood them to keep them warm from cold. She leads them to food and water; she will call them to edible items, and feed them indirectly. Chicken instinctively knows there is food in the ground and that if it pecks and scratches at the surface it can find a food source for her chicks that are too young and weak to dig for. The mother hen in addition alerts and fiercely guards her chicks from many attacks.
In similar ways God has given us the truth of Himself to feed us, lead us, keep us warm, alerts and shield us from danger. He has provided our needs because He cares. Think of His cry, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Mat 23:37)
