He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Investing In Your Children

Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it

Numerous studies have shown that about 88% of children raised in evangelical homes leave church at the age of 18 never to return. This is an alarming rate. How then is this verse applicable in the upbringing of children in the light of this alarming statistics? It has to be understood correctly before application. Think of it this way, train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, however hard he may try to run away from the teaching/training, it will always be present with him. He cannot depart from it neither will he silence it. What was taught or observed at home will not depart from him.

The prodigal son returned home because he remembered his upbringing. It is important that children be invested in (discipled). As a parent, you don’t want to suffer the heartache of your children rebelling against their Christian upbringing. While only God can save and keep, biblical principles implemented can make them wise in readiness for salvation and preservation. Timothy is a great example (2Tim 3:14-16).
