He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Learning By Teaching

1Sa 3:4-8, 4 Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” 5 and ran to Eli…But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” …7 Now Samuel did NOT YET KNOW the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8 …Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy.

Samuel heard a voice but could not discern whose it was until he was instructed by Eli. Even Eli a seasoned priest still needed to learn or be reminded of the Lord’s voice and doing before teaching this young boy.

God speaks to us: (1) in His Providence; (2) in His Word; (3) by His Spirit. You may mistake the voice at first as Samuel did, but if you mistake God’s voice, He will speak to you in more than once by teaching until you know both the Speaker and His message. Children taught God’s word learn at an early age to know and discern God’s voice from others. Paul to young Timothy, “14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2Ti 3:14-15). He reminded him of his journey to faith and encouraged him to keep going. Parents teach and encourage while trusting God who began a good work to bring it to a completion (Phi 1:6)
