He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

What “A Living Sacrifice” Means

Rom 12:1 …to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, … (b)

In the light of his teaching on God’s mercies, Paul l encourages believers to therefore present their bodies as a living sacrifice as explained earlier in Rom 6:13, “Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” Our bodies are considered the organs of the inner life. As through the unredeemed body evil flows, it is through the redeemed heart that the body displays/manifests the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). In justification, we were redeemed from death to life, sanctification now keeps us going and growing.

To be a living sacrifice is harder than a slain sacrifice and here is why, it’s a continuous battle to overcome the world, the flesh and the devil. It is giving up everything to God in heart, will and thought, being conscious of His presence, and doing all the actions of the inner man. The requirements are only possible with our dependence on and in obedience to Him. We are to demonstrate grateful hearts full of praise, and in every act prompted by the love of Christ for us and our love for Christ. This is the beginning of a sacrifice to God as a sweet smelling savor. Heb 13:5 “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”, Heb 13:16 “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices
