He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Who Is Worthy?

Luk 7:1-9, 4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: (KJV)

A certain centurion sent Jewish elders to speak to Jesus concerning his sick servant. Upon meeting Jesus, the elders spoke highly of the centurion and felt that he was worthy and deserved Jesus’ attention because he was a man of reputation. He was a kind man, he had done so much for the community as they noted. And here was another demonstration of his care, he sought help from Jesus for his servant.

As Jesus left to meet him at his house, the centurion sent a message vs. “6… saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof”. In the background of men, we may feel or by others be considered worthy of the attention of the Lord based on how we pray, help others, lead our families etc. However, the Christian walk is not that of merit but of mercy. The elders elevated the centurion but he knew better. That is the kind of humility we should strive for, we are unworthy servants. “Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to the cross I cling“. Jesus who is worthy came to show mercy to unworthy souls.
