He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Persuaded That He Is Able

2Tim 1:12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

I find this verse fitting both Joseph and Jonah who trusted in God’s ability. Joseph had dream (Gen 37), tough times worked against its fulfillment. In serving others he invoked God’s faithfulness, “…Do not interpretations belong to God” (Gen 40:8). His confidence was in God’s timing and trusted God to bless others even if his was delayed or denied. That is confidence from persuasion, Faith comes by hearing.

Contrary to Joseph, Jonah refused to heed to the call of God to preach in Nineveh. He chose to go the opposite direction to flee from the Lord. God sent a big fish, he was 3 days in the belly of the fish swallowed, “Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish” (Jon 2:1). While they both suffered at different times, they were persuaded, convinced that God was able to come through, that is why they prayed and believed. The outcome was in His hands (will).
